Verner Panton

about this collection
Verner Panton was born in in Denmark 1926, where he later become an architecture student at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Shortly after, he worked from 1950-52 at famed Arne Jacobsen's firm, and went on to start his own independent studio for architecture and design in 1955. He gained popularity and acclaim by making geometric furniture designs for the firm Plus-linje. In the following years Panton created numerous designs for seating furniture and lighting. Verner became known for his use of bright colors and geometric patterns which attributed to his range of textile design. He often merged the elements of a room with one another into a unified "gesamtkunstwerk." His most well known examples are the Visiona ship for the Cologne Furniture Fair, the Spiegel publishing headquarters in Hamburg, and the Varna restaurant in Aarhus.
